LandInSights congratulates Ellen Gabriel on winning the Grand Prix of the Conseil des Arts de Montréal
Terres en vues/LandInSights warmly congratulates Ellen Gabriel on being awarded the Conseil des arts de Montréal’s annual Grand Prix for her film Kanatenhs – When The Pine Needles Fall.
This documentary is a work of memory, dedicated to the often overlooked but essential role of Mohawk women in defending the territory. Montreal audiences were introduced to Ellen Gabriel’s film when it was presented at the First Peoples’ Festival 2023, where it was awarded Best Canadian Short Film SRC-Espaces autochtones.
Land InSights would like to underline the highly symbolic significance of awarding the CAM’s 2024 Annual Grand Prize, for the first time in thirty-eight years, to an Aboriginal artist whose life and work are closely linked to Mohawk culture and the ancestral territory of her community.
